my name is Karen Bowman and I'd like to tell you a story... it's probably
a story not unlike your own. For too many years I struggled with the

In
the beginning... I didn’t even know I had nail fungus! Each
week…as I had always done…I trimmed, filed and painted my
toenails…and then one day when I was removing my toenail polish,
I noticed those tell-tale white spotty marks on the surface of my
toenails. I wondered about it… but put it out of my mind…
and “down to” a reaction with the acetone in the nail polish
remover. Somewhere in the back of my mind though, I had a nagging
doubt…
A
few months later I ran into a friend of mine Liz, out shopping for shoes
with her mother-in-law who was visiting from out of town. It was the
beginning of summer and the shop displays were lined with beautiful
summer sandals. She introduced me to her mother-in-law and we laughed
about meeting in the shoe department! I mean… what woman doesn’t
love shoes… and sleek strappy sandals are the ones we love best!
Liz’s
mother-in-law remarked about how sad it was that she could no longer
wear open toe sandals. I questioned her about this…and she pointed
to her feet. Her toenails… or what was left of them… were
decimated. They had eroded to the nail bed…and what was left was
contorted and ugly! I felt immediate empathy for her…for not only
was this ugly and disfiguring…it looked painful too!
She
told me she had tried everything to cure it…including pharmaceutical
lacquers and oral medication…and as a last resort the doctor had
removed her toenails completely! The nails had then grown back ugly
and distorted. Every treatment she had tried had failed…and she
had now resigned herself to just “living with it”!
It
was then that my panic set in! Meeting Liz’s mother-in-law galvanized
me into action. I realised I had been harboring my own secret problem
for too long and I needed to seek treatment… and soon… before
it was too late! Somehow…I knew this thing was not going to go
away without a fight! And I was right!

Here
is my personal story...
When
I developed a fungal nail infection in my big toenails, I had no idea
what this thing was... but I had an inkling it couldn’t be good!
I had always taken good care of my feet and kept my toenails prettily
painted.
First
big mistake! Nail fungus LOVES warm damp places... and sealing the living
breathing nail with nail polish created the perfect breeding ground
for this thing called Onychomycosis. It started as white marks on my
nails... sort of like a powdery white discoloration... and before long
I had a dark area at the base of my right big toenail which was daily
ever-widening and spreading.

FACT:
Several different types of fungi can cause Onychomycosis
(nail fungus/fungal nail infection) including Trichophyton Rubrum
and Trichophyton interdigitale. It can also be caused by yeasts
and moulds. These organisms thrive in moist dark environments...
like shoes... (particularly shoes worn without socks or worn
with synthetic nylon socks)... sweaty running shoes or joggers...
ladies nylon hosiery... or even... (as I discovered) when locked-in
beneath layers of nail polish that did not allow the nail to
breathe!

I
went to my family Doctor who took a look and then asked me how badly
I wanted treatment. I mean... what do you say, when someone asks you
“how important (to you) are your toenails?”
|
"I
couldn’t believe (and
still can’t) that some medical practitioners don’t
think it is necessary to treat onychomycosis. Some believe it
to be just a cosmetic disorder and patients (that’s you
and me) must be pretty vain to want a cure!"

FACT:
An estimated 20 percent of people worldwide suffer from
some form of toenail fungus...and the numbers may be far greater
than is realized. It
is almost unheard of in children but the rate of infection increases
with age and by the age of 70 an estimated 50 percent of people
worldwide will have been affected to some degree. Onychomycosis
can be easily spread from foot to foot... floor to foot... even
beach to foot... (bad news for a beach baby like me!) and also
foot to hand... (as I later found out!) So... given the numbers
who suffer... do we treat the problem or do we ignore it and
hope it will go away without treatment?

Naturally...
I insisted on treatment. She prescribed a very expensive pharmaceutical
nail lacquer and instructed me to file down my nail close to the nail
bed and apply the lacquer weekly. She hastened to add that I could
paint my regular nail polish over the top if I still wanted my feet
to look pretty!
Well...
after twelve months of regular filing and painting and two bottles of
expensive pharmaceutical nail lacquer... (followed by that season’s
latest fashion nail color)... I could see no improvement at all. That’s
when I decided to go cold turkey and dispense with the idea of fashionable
feet! No more fashionable nail polish... this was getting serious!
Each
week I religiously treated my feet... filing and painting with the pharmaceutical
lacquer... filing and painting.
Then
I had a break-through. The fungal infection seemed to be
improving. After a few months, my nails had grown out and were looking
more pink and healthy again. I was delighted to have my toenails back...
at least they were beginning to actually look like my toenails again!
I kept up the treatment for another 6 months and then relaxed. Another
big mistake! It came back...
And
it came back bigger and more ugly than before. I now had it on all my
toenails... and the ugly dark tell-tale mark was back at the base of
my big toenail.

FACT:
Toenail fungus is difficult to cure... even after conventional
treatment is complete and the nail appears to have healed...
recurrences are common. Once pharmaceutical treatment has commenced
it can take between 6 - 12 months for the toenail to grow right
out and often the infection is still there… you just can’t
see it.

For
the next two years I went back to religiously filing and painting
on the prescription lacquer... and then… one day I noticed a
white area on my little fingernail. That was the final straw! Through
treating my feet… I had infected my fingernail!

FACT:
Onychomycosis can easily spread from toenail to toenail...
and from toenail to fingernail. Care must be taken to wear gloves
when treating the feet... and when trimming & filing. If
you don’t wear gloves... be sure to wash your hands thoroughly
after handling your feet.

Disillusioned...
I then tried all sorts of different homeopathic treatments including
Australian Tea Tree Oil with absolutely no improvement.
I
thought it was time to call in the big guns... so I revisited my Doctor,
who prescribed pharmaceutical medicine to be taken orally... one tablet
every day for 84 days... total cost... somewhere in the vicinity of
$300.00! Fortunately for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme here, I
didn’t have to pay the whole amount... but when you think about
it... someone has to pay for these subsidised medicines... and that
someone is usually the taxpayer... (me)... but that’s another story
altogether!
I
had the prescription filled by the Pharmacist... an elderly gentleman
who looked like he “knew a thing or two”. As he dispensed
the drug he casually remarked about something “completely natural”,
that I could try “if this didn’t work”. What? This might
not work? You’ve got to be kidding me...
What
he suggested seemed altogether too simple... too easy... too natural
to work! And afterall... what did he know about my struggles to cure
this awful thing? I disregarded his suggestion completely.
Excited
by the thought of the cure I was definitely going to have... I began
the course of oral medication. But I only managed to take two of the
tablets before I began to feel really queasy and sick in the stomach.
I had a pain across my back and a funny metallic taste in my mouth.
As the mother of three children... I can only compare the feeling to
being “similar to morning sickness”. I know that won’t
help the guys reading this... but you can use your imagination!
I
stopped taking it and revisited my Doctor who told me that my reaction
was not unexpected... and that lots of people can’t take this drug.
Hmmm... worse yet... I could expect to START feeling better in “just
a couple of weeks”!
There
are contra-indications for anyone who suffers from liver damage...(tell
me... how does one know they are suffering from liver damage? I dont’...
or at least I didn’t... but maybe I do now!) and for those who
may be pregnant. There are contra-indications also for people taking
any one of a number of other pharmaceutical medicines... including the
contraceptive pill. I have an uneasy feeling about taking a drug that
can and does interfere with your entire body... just to cure your nail
fungus! Oral pharmaceutical medication, in my humble opinion, should
be a last ditch option.
By
now... sick, disappointed and disillusioned... I resigned to be like
Liz’s mother-in-law and just “put up with it”. I mean...
what else could I do? I had tried everything hadn’t I? I had exhausted
every possible option…
But
one…
It
was then I remembered what the Pharmacist had said. I thought... hmmm
okay... I could give it a try. I mean... what did I have to lose? It
would cost me far less than I had already spent and who knows... miracles
do happen...
And
you know what happened next...
After
just one week... I could see an improvement in my nails... the white
spots were subsiding! The nail looked a little clearer. I couldn’t
believe what I was seeing! Maybe I was dreaming?

I
wasn’t dreaming! Six months later... my nails have grown
and the nail fungus is now completely gone...
|
They
are once again pink and healthy... and I feel a whole lot better about
myself and the way I look. I don’t have to worry about wearing
sandals this summer... or going bare-foot at the beach!
What’s
even better is... I am now bullet-proof for life (well as far as nail
fungus is concerned!) ... because
the answer will always be readily at hand... it costs very little...
and the treatment can be easily incorporated into almost anyone’s
daily routine... it takes just minutes!
In
fact... in my subsequent research, I came up with quite a few more uses
for this product too... which I have put into practice in my everyday
healthcare regime... (which incidentally also includes a healthy diet
and supplements of essential vitamins and minerals... critical to maintaining
a healthy body)... including the nails! But I’ll tell you more
